Omamori

Omamori is an annual living connection between the recipient, the shrine, and Divine Nature (Kami).

Earth Shinto

Omamori (lit. “honorific protectors”) are annual protective amulets imbued with Ōkami-sama’s Fuku (福)—the positive fortune, vitality, and blessing that arise through harmonious, life-affirming living.

Omamori are yearly sacred companions: conduits and physical anchors that connect us to the circulation and flow of Inochi (life essence), supporting vitality, happiness, prosperity, clarity, resilience, and alignment with one’s life path and mission.

Receiving an omamori is traditionally done through omairi—a personal shrine visit. If in-person omairi is not convenient, omamori and other Juyōhin (sacred items received from the shrine) can be arranged via the Kannagara Inari E-Juyōsho and mailed by shrine staff.

Each omamori represents a distinct orientation of protection and is reverently prepared and additionally purified in the Heiden (Hall of Offerings) of the Kannagara Chikyū Jinja before being respectfully packaged and received.

As omamori are annual in nature, used omamori, ofuda, and related sacred items may be returned to Kannagara Inari following the completion of their working life cycle. Returned items are included in the Koshinsatsu Takiage-shiki, the ritual through which gratitude is offered and the items are purified and ritually returned through sacred fire.

Kannagara Inari Ofuda

Shintō is the genius of Japan and a foundational expression of natural spirituality.

Kannagara Inari offers various types of ofuda, each reflecting a particular orientation of Inari’s blessing and protection. While each carries its own emphasis, all are:

  • Sincerely prepared/ imbued with Inari Ōkami essence
  • Ritually purified
  • Intended for annual renewal

Shintō is not something one adopts intellectually.

It is something one practices, experiences, and gradually remembers.

Receiving an ofuda can be arranged when making omairi/ shrine visit. When in-person visit is not convenient it is very fine to arrange to receive ofuda online as an extension of shrine relationship.
